[because really, though she's not as mad about it or anything like Han happens to be, she's a bit surprised he took the effort to send a note like this to Han in the first place.]
But, he may have heard of your habit of using the crystal at inopportune times.
[Deep down, Leia no doubt knows it's more complicated than that, and were it anyone else but Darth Vader that Obi-Wan had faced, she no doubt would have understood his feelings better. She also knows just as well that not having Vader around might not have changed anything at all. But, the fact that it was Vader and that Obi-Wan had a chance to prevent everything Vader would eventually do but didn't take advantage of it is a barrier to that.
Qui-Gon's response earns him a slight downturn of Leia's lips, as she's unsure how to take that. She isn't sure how far to trust him, or whether he's being sincere or passive aggressive with that comment.]
You say that as if you haven't already learned what presumably happens in my future.
[Presumably, because if she has her way, Darth Trainwreck isn't happening, and she refuses to accept otherwise as far as the fate of her family is concerned.]
[Qui-Gon clearly has more on his mind, but rather than speaking and (probablymost likely definitely) making this worse, he gives Leia a respectful bow.]
It has been a pleasure. Please enjoy the rest of the night.
Like you complained about the pajamas you picked out for me? And I wasn't complaining. I was taking the initiative to apologize for you, since you can't be bothered to do it yourself.
[There's a difference. A very slight difference, but a difference nonetheless.]
Besides, he was more interested in how we met than anything.
[To say that's an alarming message is an understatement. It almost makes Leia feel sick, feeling that fear, anger, and the dizziness along with it. But, she ignores that as best she can, because the important thing behind those feelings is that it's a familiar presence giving those feelings off.]
Ezra? That's you, isn't it?
[Despite the alarm caused by the emotions in his contact, Leia does what she can to project a sense of calm with her words, in hopes that it may help.]
[she's worried about Ezra, there's no denying that, but a heavy feeling of guilt settles inside her at Ezra's next words. Because she knew Anakin was Vader, and she knew he was here now too. But she didn't warn Ezra of this, didn't even think to, and somehow she feels part of this could have been avoided if she had been more upfront about things. There was time to worry about and apologize for that later though, since for now, she has to make sure Ezra is alright.]
[well. It's not that that's not an answer, but it's not the answer she wants. This is something from in the past, something she knows already happened, and it's not what she's most worried about now.]
What did he do to you?
[shes trying to sound calm and patient, but there's an edge of impatience in her voice, worried more about Ezra's safety and current whereabouts than anything, and he's not giving her much to work with here.]
[If not for the emotions still leaking through the connection, Ezra's silence there could have been ominous. But he's not gone, hasn't passed out. It's just taking him time to work through her question.]
...couldn't breathe...
[No, wait. That's not what he wants to say.]
He's gone.
[Good luck figuring out the jump in his train of thought there.]
[it's a jump in logic, sure, but she gets the gist of it, having been on the receiving end of a Force choke herself during her time here. There's a chill of fear and worry from her side, but it's shoved aside quickly in favor of returning to an attempt at projecting some level of calm to help Ezra try and focus. The important thing here is that, though Anakin is still out there somewhere, he's not near Ezra. And despite the alarming bit of silence before his recent response, Ezra is still alive. The rest could and will be figured out later, if she has anything to say about it, but for now this is enough.]
[Sluggish silence again, then a sense of distraction before the connection begins to fade out. Sorry, Leia, looks like Qui-Gon's here. Time for Ezra to make more mistakes.]
[and as with the rest of the messages, his silence is just as alarming to Leia. So, even with the silence, and even while she's busy with tackling this Anakin problem from her side, Leia continues to try reaching Ezra, in hopes he'll respond.]=
[he throws his hands up, confounded all over again.]
You got friends in Lothal? Kinda on the fringe, ain't it, not to mention the whole Imperial thing. You tryin' to tell me this guy's some kind of Rebel contact?
[Congrats, Han, in your confusion, you stumbled on the right answer.]
I was on Lothal to provide ships to members of the Rebellion in the area. Or to be more exact, to provide ships for the Rebellion to steal. Alderaan couldn't openly support the Rebellion, but there's nothing we could do about our ships being stolen and used by Rebels.
[and since it's han, trust him to skip right over the actual useful information to:]
Great, some kind of Rebel hotshot that's holdin' a candle for you. Well, I'll take him any day, because--you know--
[he scratches the top of his head, a nervous gesture born from the fact that his brain caught up with his mouth in time to realize he's getting dangerously close to accusing her of something, so he finishes up with a lame substitution of what he had originally planned on saying.]
[She recognizes that lame substitution for what it is. It'd be hard not to, honestly, even if she didn't know Han as well as she does now. And so, she sighs, crossing her arms and raising her eyebrows almost as if she's challenging him.]
[han's expression wavers as he tries to decide how much trouble he's in, but in the end he settles for his "bullshitting an imperial officer" face as he plants his hands on his hips.]
[see, the trouble with the "bullshitting an imperial officer" face is that not only does Leia know that expression, it also doesn't work on her. In response, he gets her best "that's bullshit, imperial officer" face. Because she's not buying that story.]
